Enjoy a relaxed hour on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, brought to life by award winning comedian Dave Spikey of Phoenix Nights and 8 Out of 10 Cats. His recorded commentary blends humour with engaging local history, highlighting points of interest and sharing how the canal once carried the lifeblood of the industrial revolution through Yorkshire. It’s an easygoing trip that gives you a fresh look at Skipton’s heritage while you cruise through peaceful stretches of waterway.
Running daily from March through November, this one hour public trip offers a comfortable indoor setting and regular departures throughout the day. With refreshments available on board, it’s a simple way to add something memorable to your visit. Advance booking is recommended, especially for groups.

Wear comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for both the weather and the boat. The boat is fully covered, so you’ll be sheltered from the elements. And don’t forget your phone or camera — you’ll want to capture the beautiful countryside views.
-
Yes, dogs are welcome on the Cobbydale for the one-hour trips. All we ask for is a donation to the RNLI charity box in return.
Guide and assistance dogs are always welcome, with water bowls provided.
-
Yes. There’s limited parking near the office and boarding point, plus additional spaces about 50 metres away across the canal at the pay-and-display car park.
-
To access the boats, you must go down 4-5 steps, with handrails on both sides. Wheelchair users can be wheeled up to the boat entrance but must be able to manage the steps with assistance if needed. Our staff will do their best to help with boarding and disembarking, and we can provide extra time if necessary. We can also store wheelchairs or walkers safely in our office. See our Accessibility Info page for more details.
-
We only offer bar snacks and ice cream during the summer months on these trips.
