New Skipton Ghost Cruise: Discover Skipton’s Darker Side from the Canal

There are plenty of ghost stories hidden among Skipton’s old streets, yards and buildings.

But what happens when you take those stories onto the water?

This October, Skipton Boat Trips is launching something completely new: the Skipton Ghost Cruise, created in collaboration with Yorkshire Ghost Tours.

Taking place aboard the Cobbydale, the one-hour cruise combines local history, folklore, theatre and dark Yorkshire humour as you travel along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

A ghost tour with a difference

Unlike our usual one-hour sightseeing cruises, the Skipton Ghost Cruise does not use recorded commentary.

Instead, a professional character guide will be on board throughout the journey, bringing Skipton’s darker past to life with stories of local folklore, unexplained happenings and some of the town’s more colourful characters.

It is designed to be atmospheric and entertaining rather than a full-on horror experience, making it a great choice for families, visitors and anyone who enjoys local history with a slightly darker twist.

Tickets are already selling quickly

The first Skipton Ghost Cruise tickets have been on sale for less than 48 hours, and the response has already been fantastic.

Two sailings have sold out, including the 6pm cruise on Friday 23rd October and the 3pm cruise on Saturday 24th October.

There is still availability on selected Halloween-week departures, but some sailings are already beginning to fill.

For the special Halloween cruises, children will also receive a small bag of sweets to enjoy during the experience.

A new way to experience Skipton

Skipton is well known for its castle, historic streets and canal, but the Ghost Cruise offers a different way to discover the town.

From the water, you can slow down, take in the atmosphere and hear stories that reveal another side of Skipton’s history.

Whether you are visiting for Halloween, looking for something unusual to do with the family or simply fancy seeing Skipton from a different perspective, this is a cruise with a little more mystery than usual.

Just don’t spend too long looking at the reflections in the canal…
