The Leeds & Liverpool canal

Welcome to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, a beautiful waterway that connects the cities of Leeds and Liverpool in Northern England. As you travel along the canal, you’ll pass through the stunning Pennines and Aire Valley, as well as the charming town of Skipton.

The Leeds and Liverpool Canal was originally constructed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries to transport goods and commodities, such as coal, limestone, and cotton, between Leeds and Liverpool. It played a crucial role in the industrialisation of the region and is now a popular leisure destination. You can enjoy boat trips and other activities along the length of the canal.

So come and explore the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and discover the rich history and natural beauty of this iconic waterway.

Visiting Skipton

Welcome to Skipton, the bustling market town located in the North Yorkshire district of Craven and known as the “Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales.” Our town offers a unique blend of history and modernity, making it a great destination for tourists seeking a mix of culture, sightseeing, and shopping.

As you enjoy your trip in Skipton, take some time to explore our rich history. The town first became a market town in the 12th century, and many of its original features remain today, such as the stone-built packhorse bridge and the well-preserved Skipton Castle, which has stood for over 900 years. Visiting the castle also gives you the opportunity to see beautiful views of the town and surrounding countryside.

In addition to its historical landmarks, Skipton is home to a variety of independent shops and boutiques offering everything from jewellery to clothing to local produce. The town also has a range of restaurants, cafes, and pubs to choose from, offering diverse cuisines for all tastes.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do in Skipton as well, with numerous walks and trails in the area taking in the stunning scenery of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. If you’re looking to venture further afield, Skipton is also well-connected by rail and makes a great base for day trips to nearby cities such as Leeds, Bradford, and Harrogate.

No matter what interests you, Skipton has something to offer. With its blend of history, culture, and shopping, it’s no wonder the town is such a popular destination for tourists.
